How To Play Sudoku - Only One Possible Box In A Row Or Column
When looking at a group of three mini-grids, you can try to determine where to place a certain number. When using this trick, you may want to use a pencil and eraser so you can wipe out your markings.
Look at three mini-grids that run across or down a sudoku puzzle. Pick a number from 1 to 9 that does not yet appear in all three mini-grids.
For each mini-grid that does not yet contain the number you picked, look across the rows that run through the mini-grid for the number. If the number appears in a row, the empty boxes in the row cannot contain the number. Place an x in each empty box in the row.
After you finish scanning the rows and columns if only one possible empty box in a row or column remains, the number belongs in the box. You can fill in the number right away. If you are left with more than one possible empty box, you will have to fill in the number at a later time.
For each mini-grid that does not yet contain the number you picked in step 2, look along the columns that run through the mini-grid for the number.
